Down to San Diego and back again

It was a whirlwind trip to Southern California last week. Grandpa is doing as well as can be expected. With cancer in both lungs, it is getting more difficult for him to get around and breathe. His pneumonia is back, so the antibiotics in his system wreak havoc with his digestion. When I called last night though he sounded very happy.

My cooking adventures only lasted a few days, though, because I felt i was taking over the kitchen too much. I did make an excellent frittata the first breakfast won fresh tomatoes from the garden:

What we didn't realize was ComicCon was the same weekend. Too bad, because we missed a lot of cool swag and celebrities this year. We did get some exposure to the Con, because I got to meet up with my favorite reviewer and long time friend Mic Hawk. Ota and I took all the kids with us for a lunch meetup. We went to an Irish Pub. The servers outfits were great and there was soccer on the huge t.v.s. Brent and Bryan didn't talk much but said they had fun. Ben loved it all:

Later in the week, I spent time with my aunt and cousin helping with the house, Ota entertained the boys. He took them to the Air and Space Museum in Balboa Park. They took some group photos, but Ota didn't like them. In fact we have almost no pictures from the whole week. We did bring a camera though.

My birthday brought on the Cousin/Sister pedicure adventure. Jo and I had bonding time and fun. Here's a later shot of my big toe:

Jo got orange polish which looked terrific. I decided to get my makeup done for dinner at the clinique counter at Macy's:

We later went to Outback Steakhouse for dinner, which was made better by the crazy boys:

Lastly, we saw Captain America. Ben fell asleep within the first half hour.
Tammy and the gang were there when we got back. It was nice to see Peyton and the girls on my birthday!

Grandpa managed to start eating again. He even made the trip to Costco with us when Bryan needed his glasses fixed. I'm very sad that his health is suffering so much, but he is very accepting of the whole situation. I wish I could still be there.
